My name is Wendy Schwartz and my firm, Careers Done Write, does a great deal of work helping senior level financial executives position themselves for career growth.

We are hosting a Webinar on February 8th for Financial professionals in conjunction with Job Search Digest, called:

To sign up, you can go to www.careersdonewrite.com/webinar.

We hope to see you there if you are interested in learning how to position yourself better for career transition.

It is a pleasure to be a part of this group.

Just curious--what are the biggest challenges finance professionals face regarding career growth? What are the common mistakes people make?

That is an excellent question! One of the biggest mistakes a finance professional can make is in how they list their accomplishments on their resume. The SAR method, which stands for Situation, Action, Result is imperative to provide strong examples of what you have done in the past.

The second thing I have noticed with financial professionals,as well as other industry professionals, is that many of them do not prepare a resume that is visually aesthetic. Resumes are the foot in the door to new opportunities and are the first chance a candidate has to exhibit their professional brand.

C-level execs want to make a stellar impression. If you would like more information, there are a lot of excellent articles on the Careers Done Write Blog at http://www.careersdonewrite.com

Thanks. Another question--what about finance professionals who are 40 plus? Are there other considerations for them in terms of how they present themselves, their resume and so on?

That is an excellent question. There are some things that a finance professional who is over 40 can do to prevent age discrimination without appearing to have left content off their resume inappropriately.

1. It is not necessary to include dates on education.
2. Work history that is over 15 years old can be included under a separate section called additional experience to show career path but minimize dates or can be removed altogether(be careful with this one).
3. If removing information from the resume, be sure to put a sentence that says additional experience available upon request. You don't want your last job on your resume to be VP level without an explanation. It will make you look like you have omitted information and will appear dishonest.

If you want, I can give you a free resume critique or you can attend the free webinar at 1 PM ET on Feb. 8th with Debra Wheatman in conjunction with Job Search Digest. For information, email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or visit http://www.careersdonewrite.com/webinar.

Feel free to post also if you have other questions or need clarification on the above.

Also, if you have any other questions, feel free to post here and I will do my best to answer them.
