Christian S. Schade joined NRG Energy as executive vice president and will assume the position of chief financial officer in early May. Schade was previously CFO at Medarex, a Princeton-based biopharmaceutical company acquired by Bristol-Myers Squibb for $2.4 billion in September 2009. Prior to Medarex, Schade was a managing director in the debt capital markets group at Merrill Lynch. He takes over from Gerald Luterman, who served as NRG's interim CFO since November 2009. Luterman will remain as CFO through the release of first-quarter earnings and 10-Q filing, expected in early May 2010. He then expects to resume his role as an independent director and member of the NRG board of directors' audit committee.
Richard Henriques was named CFO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Henriques has been corporate controller at Merck since 2006. He starts at the philanthropic foundation, which has a $34 billion endowment, on April 19.Henriques will oversee the foundation's finances, including accounting, planning and analysis. Henriques is the successor to Alexander Friedman, who left the foundation recently after two years in the job, Reuters said.
Pacer International announced that John Hafferty has been appointed chief financial officer. Prior to joining the freight transportation and logistics company, Hafferty was CFO for the international division of Ozburn-Hessey Logistics, a global freight management company. He will report to Pacer's chairman and CEO, Daniel W. Avramovich. Brian C. Kane, who has served as chief financial officer since September 2008, will remain with the company through early June during a transition period.
Response Genetics said its chief financial officer, Thomas Stankovich, has resigned to pursue other interests, effective April 2. Stankovich will complete the filing of the company's 2009 10-K and has agreed to assist in the transition of his role. The company, which is focused on the development and sale of molecular diagnostic tests for cancer, has commenced a search for a new CFO. Eric Alcorn, vice president of finance and administration, will serve as interim CFO.
Integrated Electrical Services tapped Terry L. Freeman as its chief financial officer. He replaces Randy Guba, who will remain with the company through a brief transition period. From 1997 through 2005, Freeman worked for Metals USA, a metal service company, where he served in several senior financial roles, most recently as CFO.
Daniel Ammann was appointed treasurer at General Motors. Ammann, 37, was most recently managing director and head of industrials investment banking for Morgan Stanley, a position he held since 2004. While at Morgan Stanley, he led a banking team advising GM on its restructuring.
RSC Holdings announced that David Mathieson, its chief financial officer, has resigned to pursue other opportunities. The heavy equipment rental company named Patricia Chiodo, currently its controller, as interim CFO. RSC has commenced a nationwide search for a new finance chief.
